Motivation & finding your mojo

There are so many great benefits to exercising however most of us find it a real chore and struggle to get motivated on a regular basis.

I can guarantee you the hardest part of starting and finding your motivation is changing your mindset, putting your positive pants on and believing in yourself. Once you believe you can get up and do it, the ‘do-ing’ becomes easy!

Motivation comes and goes, there is no doubt about that. So, below I have outlined a few helpful tips to help get you get up and moving today.

  • Find a friend & schedule in your workouts. Social catch-ups make any workout worthwhile, enjoyable and a lot more fun at the best of times. It’s one thing cancelling on yourself but another to cancel on friends – you are less likely to do so! So go grab a buddy, schedule in a class or even a walk and make it a weekly event.
  • Don’t think you have to do what everyone else is doing or follow the latest fitness trends to keep fit. I think it is really important to change your fitness perspective and mindset to help gain motivation. You don’t have to be the fittest person in the class or the fastest runner to get started – believe in yourself! Baby steps are better than no steps at all.
  • Get outdoors and make fitness fun. If you don’t like circuit classes or even yoga, then don’t go to them. You are less likely to get out of bed early in the morning for something you don’t enjoy. So, find something that motivates you, something you love and you will enjoy doing a few times a week because if you don’t, you will only make excuses.
  • Stop comparing yourself to others. Learn to do things for you, if you’re not happy in your own skin, you will neverbe happy – you could reach your target goal and still not be happy if you keep comparing yourself to others around you. Happiness comes from the inside out, so believe in yourself and stay focused on your own journey.
  • Set realistic goals, have self-belief and most importantly – be patient. Write your goals out, read them daily and be sure to recognise your progress and where you have come from. It’s going to take time and at times it will be uncomfortable and hard. But its breaking through those barriers that are the most rewarding.

At the end of the day it’s up to you, you can’t complain about things you’re not willing to work hard to change. Believe in yourself, hold yourself accountable, set yourself some achievable goals and just do it!
